Leading with the brain in mind.

Coaching Tip – Getting clear on the ‘goal’

The first step of the GUIDE model is ‘Goal’. Here are a few thoughts on this step:

You can ask the coachee a variety of questions to get clarity on their goal. This will ensure you follow their agenda, and help both of you become clear about the best use of the time. Here are some questions you could ask:

· Describe the current situation – What is the issue, challenge or opportunity you want to discuss?

· Identify the goal – What is your ultimate goal?

· Establish the coaching goal – What do you want to get from our session/time/chat today?

· Verify the plan for the conversation – So what would you like to walk away from our time together today?

Getting clear on what the person wants from your time is a crucial step to making sure you are serving their needs, and their agenda.

People generally know what they need from you. Just ask them!
